The importance of analyzing vibrational data

The analysis of vibrational data has for a long time been the cornerstone of predictive maintenance: applying this technique to rotational machines it’s possible to identify mechanical and/or electrical problems and monitor the progressive degradation of a component before a defect/wear can harm the proper functioning of an asset and/or cause production stoppages or damage to machinery.

To date, the vibrational measurements on industrial machines are carried out only in two ways: WIRED fixed sensors that continuously send data to a computer on site that, through standardized software with preset alarm thresholds, warn the customer of any abnormal vibration, but without the help of an analyst who makes a diagnosis of the problem encountered.

Alternatively, data is collected periodically by dedicated staff (mostly outsourced), who equipped with an portable instrument physically go to the plant, and subsequently returned to the office, fill out an analysis report of the condition of the machine, but this report only refer to the instant in which it is the data was collected, thus performing only a periodic and ordinary type of predictive maintenance, not keeping up with the times and needs of an industry in the 4.0 Era.

The new solutions offered by Pinpoint, simple to install, economical and flexible, allow to apply an improved maintenance approach, based on the prediction, protection and control of production systems, in order to provide companies positive results in terms of reduction of planned and unplanned downtime and greater control over maintenance operations: this way the maintenance staff will be able to concentrate their efforts on the assets that need attention, establishing priorities and urgencies based on the criticalities that are highlighted.

The Pinpoint solution can be used in the factories of any company, mainly productive or in any case equipped with industrial machinery of any size, in particular medium and large companies.
In general, the system is very useful for companies that have a fleet of complex and high-value machines and/or other equipment that control or manage these machines. The Pinpoint solution can monitor the entire plant, preventing a failure in an asset ( even of small dimensions/value and not directly used in the production process) that can negatively impact complex machinery, damaging them and compromising their functioning and causing production downtime.
The system is also particularly interesting for all industries that have facilities in hazardous / hostile environments for human resources or for the machines themselves or Industries that deal with explosive substances or potentially toxic dust: thanks to the solution developed by Pinpoint, it is possible to eliminate the use of personnel to control these assets, with a strong benefit in terms of safety and health in the workplace.

How does the customer dispose of this data:
fast, responsive and intuitive

Caleno: the online portal

Caleno is the web application created by PinPoint to allow the customer easy view of the efficiency of all the Assets monitored. The web platform is also accessible online from smartphones and tablets, ideal for constant control of important assets.

IN REAL TIME

Caleno collects the data sent by the sensors in real time. Through access to the platform (with different privileges for each user decided by the client), the data relating to the assets is displayed for inspection.

STATISTICS

By accessing Caleno, the customer can view various parameters and statistical data such as: the duration of the machine activity, downtime for maintenance or scheduled production breaks.

FACTORY MAP

Directly accessible on the web platform, it’s possible to have a digital map of the plant, overviewing the entire monitored machinery park. The state of the assets is expressed by a color code: green in case of correct functioning, yellow and then red in case of progressively deteriorating changes.

REPORTS

PinPoint analysts publish detailed reports (with frequency based on customer needs) on the evolution of the operating conditions of the monitored assets with information such as machine wear trends and prediction analysis, allowing the customer to program machine maintenance with extreme precision.

Data collection, reporting and machine status in one unique platform

  • FAILURE PREDICTION

The data collected allows the customer to know beforehand when a failure could occur.

  • COMPATIBLE WITH EVERY DEVICE

These data are displayed both on desktops and remotely on tablet or smartphone.

  • ALL DATA WITH A CLICK

Within the Caleno platform it is possible to view the various statistical parameters and the plant layout with the status of the machinery.

  • PRIORITY

Knowing the state of wear of the assets in a precise way, the customer will be able to dedicate time and resources for maintenance in a more efficient way.

  • CRITICAL ALARMS

When vibrational anomalies occur within a short time span (unpredictable events), the system sends a critical alarm notification to the customer (via email, SMS and on the Caleno platform).

  • DISCRETIONARY ALARMS

When instead the vibrations exceed a certain threshold established on the basis of the machinery specifications, an “”discretionary”” alarm is sent (predictable machine wear).
